Mud
Micro-fiction by Fairuza Pamenam
This special contribution to Vol 1: Beginnings from Spill Your Dreams comes from Fairuza Pamenam. Before we convened our first collective publishing session, she offered us this poem to join us in spirit as we walked along the Maas River.
“She’s calling. I have to go.”
“Do you?” Her reaching hand is flicked away as if she were a dirty fly landing on precious fruit.
“It’s the Maas, you don’t just say no to her.” Mira crumpled up the fabric of her skirt until Gaia felt nervous and took a step in groundless air.
Gaia thought about the last time she saw Mira and how she didn’t take the leap with her. With a stick, she poked holes in muddy footprints.

You definitely do not say no to Maas when she calls. Thanks for the short, but sweet piece :)
